Having taken the trouble to select the most appropriate fixing for a job you will want to ensure that the contractor knows exactly which fixing to obtain, and the key parameters involved in its installation. The Sample Formats available below cover the most common anchor types and are provided in Microsoft Word so that you can modify them to suit individual cases and incorporate them into your project documents.
Changing Specifications. Contractors frequently want to change specifications for a variety of reasons and engineers are usually prepared to do this but it is important to realise that a specification that has been arrived at after careful consideration of all the relevant parameters should not be changed for an alternative product unless the whole selection process has been repeated. An alternative anchor which has an equivalent safe working load as shown in a catalogue may not have the same performance in terms of close edge and spacing distances. There may be other variables which will only show up if a full calculation is carried out. Similarly, carrying out a series of proof load tests on site will not validate the specification adequately as the safety margin will not be explored.
